Chapter Eight

Pandora, they discovered, was still sleeping when they returned to the spot where they’d left her. All three of them stood staring down at her hungrily for several moments. Finally, Dragon broke the spell. “It occurs to me forcefully that this is just what we need.”

Unicorn licked his lips, still glassy eyed. “I certainly have need.”

Dragon punched him on the shoulder. “Pay attention!”

Drake swallowed convulsively several times and finally managed to drag his gaze from her. “I’m not sure I follow.”

Dragon gestured toward Pandora’s naked form, sprawled in wanton display. “The trap?” he prompted. “He won’t be able to resist that!”

Drake returned his attention to her, trying to focus his mind on Dragon’s suggestion and evaluate it. All he could actually think about, however, was joining her on the ground and burrowing root deep into her. “You don’t think he’ll be suspicious if he finds her like that?”

“What was the first thing that popped into your mind when you saw her?” Dragon demanded testily.

“Fucking her,” Perseus said promptly.

“Exactly!”

Drake frowned, trying to focus. “What if someone else stumbles upon her?”

“We’ll have to see to it that they don’t!” A thought occurred to him. “There’s nothing in the curse about her drawing males to her, is there?”

“Not that I know of,” Drake responded, “but we were all drawn to her, weren’t we? And Perseus said I couldn’t have gotten the wording right.”

“Why is that?” Dragon asked.

“He said that she was doomed to unrequited lust and her blood forever. That certainly can’t be the case when I have lusted for her! And she clearly lusts for me! It’s reciprocated, you see.”

“Hmm,” Dragon murmured. “What drew you to her?”

“I could hear her moans of passion and caught her scent. It aroused me and I went in search of her.”

Dragon frowned. “That’s what drew me, as well,” he said uneasily. “Mayhap it is only that we were curious, though? I cannot recall that I felt any pull that I would consider magical.”

He considered that and finally dismissed it. “We’ll simply have to guard her. It is bad enough already that there are three of us to share her. We don’t want anyone else sniffing around her!”

Drake sent him a resentful look, but as much as he hated sharing her at all, he knew she wasn’t actually ‘his’ to decide whether to share or not. In any case, he was in no shape to defend his territory and both he and Pandora were in need of help. “There’s still the problem of finding the gnome to start with.”

“I don’t anticipate it being a tremendous problem,” Dragon said dismissively. “I have a very good nose and excellent sight. I will simply fly over the forest and look for their village.”

They discovered it was more of a problem than they’d anticipated once Pandora finally woke and they explained the plan. She stared at them uncomfortably, obviously struggling with something. “I’m … not at all certain I’d recognize him,” she confessed unhappily.

They stared at her blankly.

“I was only a child at the time and I only saw him once.
